Samastha Kerala Jam’eyyat ul-Mu’allimeen Central Council
Samastha Kerala Jem-Iyyathul Mu’allimeen was established in 1951 to streamline
the activities of the over 10,000 madrassas, over a hundred religious colleges,
more than 200 orphanages, numerous dars and thousands of mahals.
There are over one lakh teachers, 12 lakh students and religious preachers
who are doing the service to the community. Muslims got religious education from
madrassas and dars that were scattered and did not have any organised form. This
was the situation when Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board was established in 1951. The
first office was at the Halwa Bazar in Kozhikode. Muslim scholars and leaders of the
community had to struggle hard to give a unified form to religious education and provide
a sense of direction. The earlier form of the Jem-Iyyathul Mu’allimeen existed in
certain parts of Kannur and Malappuram districts.
